LABOR LISTENS: Public Transport Plan

Posted: Thursday, 28 October 2010 | By: raypastoors

The Greens have put forward an inspiring plan to improve Victorias transport system why Liberals have put back the use of the old Tram line. The Greens plan suggests some great ideas like a Doncaster station and one at Eltham North. In addition the extension of a tram service to Doncaster. Perhaps one is only needed but is ALP looking into this or what transport plans in the campaign do you have?

I have heard very little and beginning to worry about the future of ALP if nothing is put out soon.

  • Continue to invest in new trains

The Greens plan is pretty and quaint, but it has no money behind it, and the party won't say publicly how they intend to fund it. so it really cannot be taken seriously, cos it's just a brainstorm of things ppl might do if they had infinite money.

instead, i think labour should continue to build on the existing network to service as many victorians as possible in a way that can be afforded.

  • Underground Railway at Docklands Melbourne

Posted: Friday, 24 December 2010 | By: ashleybrient from Maidstone , Victoria

We should plan for an underground rail line at Docklands.

    1. build an extra CityLook Tunnel or possibility two tunnels (1 each direction) and connect it to the docklands tunnels which would, be connected to Flinders Station Station with an underground station (under flinders station), and then heading West towards Docklands with an underground station on the corner of Merchant and Collins Street, then heading North-West towards the Icehouse an...

  • You should be lucky to have Labor in Victoria.

Posted: Friday, 24 December 2010 | By: ashleybrient from Maidstone , Victoria

The Labor Party has a Transport Plan, they put together the $38 billion Victorian Transport Plan in 2008 and since it's been out, it has seen at least 38 new trains hit the rails, an order of 50 new trams completed, an extension of the Epping to South Morang line and Watergardens to Sunbury, plus the introduction of more modern V/Line trains and more low floor buses including the introduction of SmartBus, plus 50 extra Transport Police, the Monas...

  • MYKI

    Posted: Wednesday, 10 November 2010 | By: PB5400 from Melbourne, , VIC

    heres an idea.
Scrap MYKI (I dont recall being consulted on it) & get some of the billions back.

Put in a simple system - $2 coin thrown in the machine and you can go where you want. No ticket. Tram, trains & buses. Fast & simple.

Low cost, fast, simple, easy. What Public transport needs to be.

  • Is it really Public Transport?

    Posted: Wednesday, 10 November 2010 | By: PB5400 from Melbourne, , VIC

We used to actually own the transport system. The liberals sold off the system and created the worst of both worlds. A private - public monopoly. Private profits and public pain.
Conductors replaced by ticket machines and ticket police.
Why has Labor continued this dismal farce? Not only continued but brought in MYKI?

I think it shows that there is no public transport vision - I mean come on - 10+ years & nothing new - just more of the ...

  • Melbourne's Public Transport, where are we going?

Posted: Thursday, 4 November 2010 | By: agustri from Werribee , Vic

I've been loyal to the ALP, but for the first this coming election I may have to vote the Greens or any other party. I have been very disappointed at the public transport and the lack of commitment by the Labour Govt.

Millions and millions of dollars are wasted due the loss of productivity ( train delays, cancellations, frustrations, you name it).

    I want to know:
    1. What is the Labour Party's plan re public transport?
    2. When will we hav...
