At Master Builders we have launched a campaign asking for strategies from the government and opposition on how they plan to tackle housing affordability.
Since 1995, the cost of the median house in Melbourne has risen from costing 3 times the average household income to nearly 6 times the average household income. This has left many Victorians unable to save a deposit and get into the market.
As yet, there has been little response on this issue from the major parties.
We are looking for some comprehensive strategies to improve land release, government taxes, council levies, planning delays, stamp duty and costly government regulations.
Our campaign is called 'Is anybody listening?' with our website www.isanybodylistening.com.au receiving thousands of hits since it was launched on November 8.
So, we ask, is anybody listening? Will the government reveal any strategies on how it plans to tackle this worsening housing affordability crisis?
